Fr.
John A. Hardon S.J. has been described as the “greatest teacher of
the Catholic faith in the 20th century”. We recently
discovered the text to a conference given by Fr. Hardon on the
hot topic of abortion, a teaching even more relevant today….would
that such a teaching be preached from every pulpit.
Tim
Kennedy
from St. Mary’s Parish gave a very inspiring and passionate
Men’s Breakfast talk on Catholic education…a vital
topic to anyone with children, grand children, nieces or nephews.
Tim not only has an excellent grasp of the causes of our failing
system, but more important, has a clear and realistic vision
of what it will take to renew it.

ST. AUGUSTINE 2009 PARISH LENTEN
MISSION
From March 30th until April
1st, Fr. Clement J. Machado preached
a great Lenten Mission in our Parish
Mission theme: “Victory
in Christ”

This
was a powerful down-to-earth Lenten Mission, much of which dealt
with the Sacrament of Confession. Fr. Clement passed on some biblical
references showing that, in fact, the “forgiveness of sins”
is the first mission given to the Church. He also explained, at
length, the proper disposition we should have when approaching
this Sacrament, and provided some precious insights on Pope John
Paul II’s mind-set regarding Confession.

Fr. Machado is a Canadian Priest, currently
residing in Rome, who makes frequent appearances
on EWTN and Vatican Radio. He is a great catechizer, and is a
member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) – same order
to which Fr. John Corapi belongs. Fr. Machado conducts missions on five continents,
and it is a real blessing to have him with us in Ottawa. |

As expected, President Obama

Where
are these two stories in the mainstream media???? Oh, right, they don't
use embryonic stem cells so they are not newsworthy.....................what
was I thinking.
"Among
the four primary sources of human stem cells (human embryos,
fetal tissues and organs from aborted or miscarried babies,
pregnancy matter (umbilical cord, placenta, amniotic fluid),
and adult tissues and organs), the extraction of stem cells
from human embryos is always morally evil on account of the
method necessarily destroying the life of the embryo. Fr. Pacholczyk
explained that the Catholic Church only applauds that
research which uses stem-cells procured from methods that do
not violate human life." Source: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2006/jul/06072709.html

ADULT FAITH EDUCATION SERIES: THE GOD DELUSION
and other errors in logic.
By Dr. Tim Lau
These ADULT FAITH EDUCATION lectures were
given at St. Augustine Parish on Thursday
February 5th, 12th & 19th: The series investigates the following questions:
Is the belief in God a delusion? Is religion the reason
we go to war or the root of all evil? Does evolution exclude
God? Is God a ‘blind’ watchmaker? Are we nothing
more than cells in the service of some ’selfish’ genes? What
does it mean to be human?

Fr. John A. Hardon S.J. on Abortion
Read,
“The Cost of Loving God”: http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/religion/re0934.htm
The
late Father John A. Hardon, S.J., who passed away in 2000, is described as “the greatest
teachers of the Catholic faith during the twentieth century.”
A very prolific writer, Fr. Hardon left us with a plethora
of teachings which will take a generation or more to fully digest.
With all these great catechistic teachings, in the form of articles,
recordings, and books, what was, until recently, overlooked
was what Fr. Hardon had to say about abortion.

Fortunately,
we discovered the text of a conference given by Fr. Hardon entitled:
This
conference was given in the mid 1990’s. Below is the introductory
paragraph to the text of the conference:
Introduction: There is no
stopping abortion without the Eucharist. Abortion is murder.
It is on a scale today greater than all previous combined abortion
murders in human history. Public demonstrations and statements
of all kinds and sizes are all very important. They offer the
opportunity for the pro-life Catholic to publicly identify before
the world where he or she stands. We must put first things first
to know and understand that behind every abortion is the devil,
a murderer from the beginning. Our own human resources are entirely
inadequate. Divine grace is absolutely necessary to stop abortion.
All graces come through Jesus Christ in His human nature. The
primary source of these graces is Holy Mass, Holy Communion
and Holy Adoration of our Lord in His Real Presence. Eternal
Life’s spiritual director keeps us committed to the truth. Let’s
hear it from Fr. Hardon.
The
discovery of this document turned out to be quite providential
in connection with the 40 Days for Life Campaign.
As we know, the central activity of the campaign is a 24-hour-7-days-a-week
peaceful prayer vigil outside of the abortion mill. Hence, Fr.
Hardon clearly recognized the importance of “public demonstrations
and statements of all kinds” against the horror of abortion.
However, Fr. Hardon also stipulates that our “own human
resources are entirely inadequate. Divine grace is absolutely
necessary to stop abortion.” In other words, in order
to combat this evil, so ubiquitous and deeply rooted in our
culture, we must first seek Christ’s graces, which are primarily
available to us through “Holy Mass, Holy Communion and
Holy Adoration of our Lord in His Real Presence.”
We
claim this document to be providential because it provides the
rationale for the St.
Patrick’s Program promoted by the 40 Days for
Life Prayer Committee. (This link is found under “EVENTS”
on http://40daysforlife.com/ottawa/).
Thus, the purpose of this program is to propose that the regular weekday parishioners
of St. Pats, those who are unable to be at the vigil site,
or those taking part in the vigil, spend some time in
front of the Blessed Sacrament in support of 40 Days for Life.
The proximity of St. Pat’s Basilica to the abortion mill, and
the fact that it is open 10 hours a day, render it an ideal
location for this type of devotion. We pray for the conversion
of everyone involved in abortions, and to sustain the sidewalk
counsellors outside the abortion mill.

Listen to and Read Text of the Latest Men’s
Breakfast Talks:

On
SATURDAY, MARCH 21ST – Tim Kennedy gave an excellent,
inspiring and very passionate talk regarding Catholic
education of our youth entitled “ Our Living Sacrifice: The Transformation of our World by the Renewal
of Our Minds.” It dealt with the crisis facing
our Christian and Catholic education. In the current high-school
system (unfortunately, also including the Catholic Board), our
youth are conditioned to be “conformed to the world”, and, thus,
are ill-equipped to defend their faith “with their minds”. Tim
not only has an excellent grasp of the causes of this crisis,
but more importantly, a clear and realistic vision of the hard
work and sacrifice it will take to renew a failing school system
that is endangering the souls of our youth. To listen to voice
file, and read the text of Tim’s talk, click HERE.
