Latest Reflections on Humanae
Vitae
Profound insights by Michael O’Brien: “Let us
not blame war or economic trouble or abortion for the current
state of the world, for this would be to blame symptoms and ignore
the source of the disease. It is, in fact, contraception that
is destroying Western civilization…….The root cause is fear”. Click

The
Canadian Bishops have produced a fine document, marking

THEOLOGY OF THE BODY
"THEOLOGY OF THE BODY" explained by the
vibrant Christopher West in his latest video series: "CREATED
AND REDEEMED"
comes to two Ottawa Parishes this fall: Annunciation of the
Lord Parish and St. Augustine Parish.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn more about one of
the greatest legacies of Pope John Paul II, and a teaching so
vitally needed in out times. The series answers the fundamental
questions of what it means to be male and female, and the significance
of human sexuality. The Theology of the Body is the best antidote
to the contraceptive mentality, which is the cornerstone of
the Culture of Death leading ultimately to abortion.
The series of DVD
presentations followed by a discussion will be given at Annunciation
of the Lord Parish every Tuesday starting October
7th and ending November 25th.
See THIS
LINK for details.
At St. Augustine Parish,
the same Christopher West series will be given every Thursday
starting October 9th and end November 27th.
for more info.
If you’ve missed the first two videos, you can view them via THIS

Tuesday, November 4 "Eastern
Christianity"
Speaker: Father Galadza
Ever
wondered about this married priest thing? And what about the “de-centralization”
of Rome to local National Churches? Did you know about
the many priests and bishops that suffered Siberian exile for
their Catholic faith? The Eastern Catholic Churches – such as
the Ukrainian Catholic, Melkite, Maronite and others, remain a
mystery to most Catholics because they are such a small minority.
Father Galadza, Kule Family Associate Professor of Eastern Christian
Liturgy at St. Paul University, will deal with several of
the issues regarding Eastern Catholicism, and more importantly,
present an overview of what Vatican II and other magisterial documents
say about Eastern Catholic theology, liturgy and spirituality.

Tuesday, November 18 "Gerard
Manley Hopkins and the Secret of Happiness"
Speaker: Christine Schintgen
As
a complement to the conceptual truths of philosophy and theology,
great literature embodies truth in works that are beautiful, giving
new freshness and vitality to the perennial teachings arrived
at by reason and faith. This talk will elaborate on how Gerard
Manley Hopkins, a Roman Catholic poet and priest, conveys beauty,
truth, and goodness through his stunningly lovely poetry. It also
attempts to explain, through an appreciation of his poetry, what
enabled Hopkins to exclaim, at
the end of his life, “I am so happy.”
