Summary of this Issue

The fallout from the Morgentaler OC award continues in a hectic pace. Hence again much of this issue deals with this infamous award.

It is important to pray not only for the conversion of Morgentaler, other abortion providers and supporters, but in particular the victims (or potential victims) of abortion as well as the women who have undergone abortion. There are suggested prayers for these intentions in this issue.

The stark reality is that many approve of this award to Henry Morgentaler. Comments to a CBC article provide ample evidence of this as well as an opportunity to evangelize these individuals.

Many Federal politicians have publicly expressed their opinion regarding this award. One notable provincial premier has done the same.

The Eucharistic Congress took place only a few weeks ago. Links are available to help you profit from the many teachings given during this momentous week, and to relive some of the excitement.

You may have heard that as of this June, we are in the Year of St. Paul. A Web site dedicated to this Year as well as an article by Archbishop Prendergast is provided.

There are two major upcoming events of note this Summer:
On Sunday July 23rd there will be an exposition of sacred relics of the saints at St. Augustine Parish
• On Saturday August 23rd “The Cry” takes place in Ottawa: movement of young people that petitions heaven for His mercy and favour on Canada

More Fallout from the Henry Morgentaler Order of Canada (OC) Award

This has been another week of hectic activity dealing with the fallout of the Morgentaler OC award. It was quite challenging to try to keep up will the articles and editorials written on this subject, participate in electronic polls and petitions and take part in the protest rally in front of Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s residence. The following Web site has been created to help you follow these developments as they occur and to provide information on how you can get (or stay) involved:
http://www.stagustinemp3.org/MorgentalerOC.html

In trying to keep up to date with all these developments, the following Web sites were most useful:

• For latest news: LifeSiteNews: http://www.lifesitenews.com/
• The best blogs:

Not just a Catholic Issue

Abortion advocates like to insinuate that Catholicism is the only major religion which objects strenuously to abortion and therefore to the OC award to Morgentaler. The Evangelical Fellowship has also been quick on the mark to voice their opposition to this award, see http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/jul/08070203.html

Politicians React

Not that anyone’s currently around to hold a vote, but both LifeSiteNews and Macleans are keeping tabs on which Federal politician made pronouncements on this issue:
• MacLeans: http://blog.macleans.ca/2008/07/03/btc-roll-call/#more-2691
• LifeSiteNews: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/jul/08071001.html

At least one Ontario prominent provincial politician has ventured to make his opinion publicly known: Dalton McGuinty. See: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/jul/08071005.html

The Eucharistic Congress which took place the week of June 15 to 22nd in Quebec City was truly a momentous and grace-filled. Many were deeply affected particularly the young participants. Cardinal Marc Ouellet believes that “we have reached a turning point in the history of the Catholic Church in Quebec”.

Pope Benedict XVI decreed June 2008 to June 2009 to be "The Year of St. Paul" commemorating the 2,000th anniversary of the Saint's birth. Inspired by the Spirit of St. Paul and the Pope's declaration, friends of St. Paul established THIS WEBSITE for the purpose of facilitating and assisting communications among the many other friends of St. Paul to honour him and his teachings.

To help celebrate the Year of St. Paul, THE CATHOLIC REGISTER will include a series of monthly articles by our Archbishop Most Rev. Terrence Prendergast, himself a noted Scripture scholar and writer. Click HERE for the 1st article.

The Cry Canada: Pro-life/ Pro-family Event August 23rd

August 23rd Christians from a multitude of backgrounds from across the country, will come together in the nation's capital for a full day of fasting and prayer for our nation. The bulk of those in attendance will be young adults who have a passion to see Christian morality restored in our nation. This will be the 3rd such rally since 2002 and the average attendance has been around 10,000, including a large number of Catholics.

We were honoured to have Catholic worship leader and artist, Janelle Reinhart with us for the gathering in 2006 and were very blessed by her contribution. We are very excited to let you know that this year we will also have Catholic worship leader David MacDonald with us for a segment of the day.

You can read much more about the event on our website (www.thecry.ca). This year, in honour of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City we have decided to do most of the activities across the river in Jacques Cartier Park, though part of the day will feature a prayer walk across the interprovincial bridge and a segment in front of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.

Yours in Christ's service and on behalf of “TheCRY” Board of Trustees and
Leadership Team,
Rev. Rob Parker
Also, Director of the National House of Prayer
