JOHN'S OPENING
& CLOSING COMMENTS FROM THE DEBATE
OPENING
Good evening everyone,
Thank you all for coming out here tonight. My name is John Pacheco.
I am the independent candidate for Ottawa West Nepean. First,
a little about myself. I’m a 36-year-old accountant. I work in
the commercial real estate industry. I have been married to my
wife, Lara, for 9 years and have four children, one of whom is
still in the womb.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am running in this election
because I believe that the future of this country: its families,
its freedoms and its way of life is in serious danger. You see,
in Ottawa West Nepean, there is no politician who will stand up
for traditional family values. No one, except me. Oh sure, you’ll
hear them talk about how important children are and how important
day care is. You’ll hear them talk about how we need to crack
down on crime and how we need lower taxes for families. And you
know what? All of these things are very good and very necessary.
But you know, there comes a point where all of these laws that
we propose to help families presuppose that we actually acknowledge
the importance of the family? The traditional family and keeping
it in tact.
You see, folks, the family is a mini-civilization.
It’s where we learn to respect authority. It’s where we learn
to discipline and to accept discipline. It’s where we learn right
from wrong. It’s where we learn to sacrifice for one another and
it’s where we learn to love and be loved. In short, the family
is a microcosm of a nation.
And the health of Canada’s institutions today,
sadly, is a reflection of the erosion of - and the attack on -
the family.
Our country is in real trouble. Our politicians
cannot or will not tell the truth. Many don’t know right from
wrong, and they think that passing more legislation will fix what
everyone else knows is a moral problem. For those who do know
the truth, few of them have the moral courage to stand up for
the truth regardless of the consequences. In today’s Canada, does
anyone equate the public service of politicians with the idea
of sacrifice anymore? Or is it more likely now about indulgence
and getting all you can - while you still can?
Respect. Discipline. Sacrifice. Love. Courage.
This is what we are missing. And we are missing it because we
have attacked the place where these virtues are fostered and nurtured.
In the family!
Marriage protects the family and the family shapes
our nation. Losing marriage has serious consequences. As many
of you have already heard, the Supreme Court has ruled that Clubs
that allow group sex and partner swapping do not harm Canadian
society. Why not? It’s consensual, right? It’s no one’s daughter,
after all, no one’s sister. Just like same-sex marriage is consensual,
right Mr. Baird?
As a father of three young girls, Clarissa, Emma,
and Tonya, and before this night is over, I want to know where
you, Mr. Baird, stand on the age of consent and the Group Sex
decision by the Supreme Court of Canada. What’s your position?
Without upholding marriage and the basic complementary
of men and women in marriage, everything is subject to redefinition.
Everything is on the table. If we lose marriage, sooner or later,
all of our freedoms will fall and we will become a totalitarian
state. The time to stand up for marriage, for freedom, and for
the future of our country is now. THANK YOU.
CLOSING
Since the foundation of this country, Canadians
of all generations have always believed in the goodness of marriage.
Canadians have always believed, and indeed continue to believe
that, femininity and masculinity are important enough to make
them a requirement in marriage.
Insisting on this, Canadians have protected the
beautiful, unique and irreplaceable role that femininity and masculinity
have played in marriage. In preserving these dimensions of our
human nature, our nation has sustained and nurtured the Canadian
family, which is the soul of our great nation.
Every child belongs to a mother and a father.
A child's human nature is derived partly from his mother and partly
from his father. To put a child in the midst of any union which
does not respect the masculine and feminine in a marriage is to
deprive the child of a fundamental development that only a mother
or only a father can give.
Only a father can "speak" to that part
of human nature that comes from his masculinity; likewise only
a mother can speak for her femininity. A child needs both a mother
and a father.
Marriage is the means of ensuring that a child
has a mother and a father.
Marriage is the foundation of our society, out of which our children
and grandchildren are born and raised. No culture, no nation,
no civilization will survive if it erodes or manipulates marriage
into something that it is not.
If, as a nation, we turn our backs on such an
institution, an institution which nourishes love between a man
and a woman, welcomes children as a blessing from God, and provides
the necessary stability for our culture - our country will disintegrate.
When a country attacks the family, it attacks its very soul.
Sadly, none of these other candidates support
protecting marriage. Mr. Baird certainly doesn’t.
On January 23, you need to do the right thing
and vote to preserve marriage and the family. Say yes to a future
for Canada and say no to the culture of death.
Please vote for me, John Pacheco.
God bless and protect our beloved country. God
save Canada.
Thank you.
